How Do I Help My Students Register?
Teachers from our eleven Dallas ISD school partners can help their students register for the ideaSpark Coding Clubs. Please share this information with students and parents. Only a parent or legal guardian has permission to register a student. Teachers may not register students personally.
How students register online:
Parents/guardians use the “Club Registration Link” below or visit clubs.boldidea.org.
Parents/guardians fill out the student’s information and select the school Coding Club that the student attends.
Parents/guardians will receive an email with the Coding Club schedule and the student’s log-in information. Teachers will also have access to this information.
Again, teachers should not register students. Dallas ISD and federal law require parental consent, especially for technology access.
Teacher Liaison Roles and Responsibilities
The teacher liaison serves as the representative for Bold Idea at a partner school and is the communication channel to participating students and their parents through official district channels.
Any staff person at the school can serve as a teacher liaison. However, the role is ideal for teachers who work directly with students who may participate in the Coding Club. She/he oversees the classroom of students during the weekly Coding Club time. As a result, they should be available after school one day a week during this time. Stipends for teacher time are available. She/he will need access to the computers and other technology that students will use for the Coding Club.
Teacher Liaison Responsibilities Include:
Being present and engaged during weekly Coding Club sessions or finding a replacement from the school (required by DISD).
Setting up and hosting the video conferencing technology for each session, if mentors are participating virtually (required by DISD).
Communicating with students and parents about the Coding Club, registration process, weekly participation, and accessing the student portal.
Aiding Bold Idea staff with promoting the ideaSpark Coding Clubs at the school to encourage student interest and registration. This may include setting up classroom visits by mentors, distributing flyers and posters, and talking about computer science with students.
Communicating with the volunteer Team Captains and Bold Idea staff about school activities which may affect Coding Club sessions, including school closures, testing dates, etc.
Managing the classroom during weekly Coding Club sessions in collaboration with volunteer Team Captains.
