Vision: A world where every student has an unobstructed path to access Computer Science education and pursue fulfilling careers in technology.
Mission: Bold Idea creates access to Computer Science in under-resourced communities and prepares students for the technology careers of the future.
Equity Statement: Equity Is at the Heart of What We Do
At Bold Idea, we believe every student deserves the chance to learn computer science and create with technology—no matter their race, gender, or income. That’s why we’re committed to being an anti-racist organization and intentionally working to close the opportunity gap for students who are too often left out.
Being anti-racist means creating a space where everyone - our team, our volunteers, and especially our students - feels seen, heard, and respected. We know the opportunity gap in education didn’t happen by accident. It’s the result of long-standing systems that haven’t treated all communities fairly. We're working to change that by making sure our programs are welcoming, inclusive, and truly serve the students who need them most.
Our Board, staff, and volunteers are all part of that mission. Together, we’re creating learning spaces where different perspectives are valued, and students can thrive as their full selves. When we make computer science education more equitable in North Texas, we’re not just preparing students for great careers - we’re helping build a more diverse and inclusive tech industry for the future.
Vision and Mission
Why Computer Science education matters - and why your support counts
Technology touches just about every part of our lives — and yet, far too many students still don’t get the chance to learn the skills they need to thrive in a tech-driven world. In many Dallas ISD schools, especially those serving Black, Latinx, and economically disadvantaged students, computer science isn’t even offered. And when it is, schools often lack the funding or resources to do it well.
That’s a big problem. Learning computer science opens doors — to college, to great jobs, to opportunities that can change lives. In fact, computing jobs are the top source of new wages in the U.S., and students who major in computer science can earn 40% more than the average college graduate.
This matters even more in Dallas, where one in three tech jobs in Texas is based, and demand is only growing. Experts predict the local tech workforce will grow 17% over the next decade.
Your support helps close this opportunity gap. When you invest in computer science education, you’re not just helping students learn to code, you’re helping them build brighter futures.
Whether Computer Science education takes place after-school, on the weekend, or through distance learning, we seek to:
>> Focus on students in under-resourced communities and bring Computer Science learning to places where it hasn’t been available because of long-standing barriers.
>> Run high-quality after-school programs that we’re always improving through feedback, strong partnerships, and what we know works best for students.
>> Give students a chance to grow their Computer Science skills over time through hands-on projects and support from mentors who work in tech.
>> Start building a strong foundation in 3rd–5th grade and grow from there, adapting the program for middle and high school as we go.
>> Let data guide our decisions so we know what’s working and how we can do better.
>> Make sure every student feels welcome, respected, and encouraged to share their unique perspective.
Our Values
Learn by Doing
We have the confidence and drive to try something new, even with the possibility of failure - because that’s how we learn!
Build Lasting Relationships
We don’t work alone. Our community of partners, volunteers and donors are critical to the mission.
Geek for Good
We put our technology skills to good use and make an impact for students.
Focus on Impact
Our work changes students’ lives. And like good nerds, we have the data to back it up.
Build Diverse Teams
Smart teams do amazing things, but truly diverse teams do impossible things. Students see mentors who reflect them, inspiring them to tech careers.
Create High Quality Programs
We’re the best at what we do.
Celebrate Success
We have fun. We know how to recognize the payoff of our hard work and celebrate together.
