Bold Idea Celebrates 10th Anniversary; Recognizes Accenture as Corporate Partner of the Year and Honors Outstanding Student with Bold & Bright Award
Computer science education nonprofit marks a decade of impact, recognizing key partners and students shaping the future of technology
DALLAS, TX - September 18, 2025 - Bold Idea, a Dallas-based nonprofit creating access to computer science education, is proud to celebrate its tenth anniversary at its Annual Celebration tonight. The milestone event will honor Accenture as Corporate Partner of the Year and recognize David Obonna, a senior at Wylie High School, with the Bold & Bright Award for his exceptional achievements in computer coding and technology career readiness.
Ten Years of Impact
Since 2015, Bold Idea has inspired students across North Texas through its after-school ideaSpark Coding Clubs, where young people learn computer science through hands-on, project-based curriculum and mentoring from professionals in the technology field. Founded by current CEO Robyn Brown, Bold Idea was born from a vision to connect engineers and developers eager to share their skills with the next generation.
Over the past decade, 1,142 volunteer mentors have given 18,812 hours of service to 1,178 student coders, sparking curiosity, confidence, and career pathways in technology.
This school year (2025–2026), Bold Idea will expand its reach to 15 Dallas ISD elementary, middle, and high schools, serving an estimated 300 students and training 15 teachers through professional development to integrate computer science into classrooms.
Corporate Partner of the Year
Bold Idea is proud to name Accenture as the 2025 Corporate Partner of the Year, recognizing its multi-faceted support:
Volunteer engagement: Since 2021, Accenture has engaged 26 employees as mentors in Coding Clubs, including eight over the past year.
Financial investment: Accenture awarded Bold Idea a $7,500 grant in 2025 to expand student programming.
Leadership: Accenture leaders have served on Bold Idea’s Board of Directors since 2018, including current Board Chair Kris Torres.
Resources: Accenture has supported Bold Idea through the donation of office space and strategic partnership.
“Accenture has been instrumental to the success of our Coding Clubs program in Dallas ISD,” said Robyn Brown, CEO & Founder of Bold Idea. “Their commitment, through funding, mentors, and leadership, has directly impacted hundreds of students who might not otherwise have access to computer science. Recognizing Accenture as Corporate Partner of the Year was an easy decision, and we are grateful to continue building this partnership.”
Kris Torres, managing director at Accenture, shared: “Bold Idea’s mission aligns closely with Accenture’s values. By equipping students with coding skills and mentors to support them, we are preparing the next generation of innovators and helping shape our future workforce. It’s an honor to support this work.”
Volunteer mentor Pourna Sengupta, Advanced Applications Sr. Engineering Analyst at Accenture, added: “I volunteer with Bold Idea to spark curiosity and foster engagement in STEM and computer science. My goal is to encourage students to explore technology and to ensure they feel supported by mentors at every stage of their journey. Inspiring young women has been especially rewarding, and I love to see classrooms filled with girls confidently learning to code. Across our clubs, students who once found coding ‘boring’ or ‘too hard’ thrive in our curriculum, discovering a passion for learning they never knew they had.”
Bold & Bright Award: Honoring David Obonna
Bold Idea also celebrates David Obonna as the recipient of its 2025 Bold & Bright Award, which recognizes outstanding students who demonstrate advanced computer science skills, creativity in coding projects, and clear aspirations to pursue technology careers.
David, a rising senior at Wylie High School, first joined Bold Idea’s Coding Clubs in elementary school and has steadily advanced his skills over the years. He now creates sophisticated projects in multiple coding languages and aspires to pursue a career in mechanical engineering after graduation.
“The Bold and Bright award means a lot to me. This award is a reflection of not only my hard work but also the whole organization and what it has done over the past years for me. I am extremely grateful that Bold Idea has given me this opportunity,” said David. “My time with this organization has not been taken for granted. It has meant so much to me that everyone sacrifices their Saturday mornings to enhance my future by teaching me how coding works and more.”
As part of the award, David will receive personalized one-on-one mentoring throughout his senior year, further skill development opportunities, and support with his college applications, including a letter of recommendation from Bold Idea.
“The Bold & Bright Award is more than recognition; it’s an investment in the potential of young leaders,” said Brown. “David’s journey shows the power of consistent access, encouragement, and mentorship. We celebrate his accomplishments and look forward to supporting him as he takes the next steps in his educational journey.”
