Meet Manny: Finding His Creative Spark in Coding Club

Manny, a 4th grader at Lowe Elementary in Dallas’ Vickery Meadow neighborhood, is discovering a whole new world of creativity through Bold Idea’s Coding Clubs. Before joining the program, Manny had never tried coding before — but now, he can’t get enough.

“I was worried at first that it would be too late to join, but I got into the Club, and I’m glad,” he shared.

What hooked Manny right away was the freedom to create. “What I like about Coding Club is that you get to be creative. You get to make basically anything you want.” So far, animations have been his favorite projects to build — and next on his list? Games.

When asked what he’d tell other 4th graders about coding and computer science, Manny’s answer is simple: “You get to be creative, you get to do everything, you get to make animations and games.”

He’s already planning to return to Bold Idea next year and says he’s interested in exploring a career in technology. For Manny, coding has become more than just an after-school activity — it’s a fun way to express himself and learn new skills. “Let’s just say you’re bored — you can go ahead and do coding. You can make something by playing around with the tools. It’s honestly pretty fun.”

At Bold Idea, we love seeing students like Manny discover the possibilities of computer science and gain the confidence to create. We can’t wait to see what he builds next!
