Yaw Asante-Bio

Yaw Asante-Bio was born in Ghana and raised in Worcester, Massachusetts. A product of the Worcester Public School District and a son to immigrant parents, he joined Teach for America with a theory of change centered around high-quality educational experiences in PreK-12, equitable access to post-secondary degree attainment, and deeper opportunities for high-wage careers that can lead to income equality for economically disadvantaged students. Yaw is an experienced educator with a demonstrated history of working in urban education, education management, policy, and advocacy.

Prior to joining Bold Idea, Yaw worked at the Commit Partnership with their Policy and State Coalition team where he supported their postsecondary education policy agenda. As well while in Boston, he worked for the Massachusetts Executive Office of Education and Department of Elementary and Secondary Education scaling their Early College programming across the Commonwealth. Through his work as an advocate for educational equity, he continuously stewards access to an equitable education for all students regardless of race or gender. This is an effort he believes can permeate through amplifying culturally responsive mindsets in schools and positioning students in minoritized communities as assets.

Yaw graduated from The College of the Holy Cross, earning his B.A in Political Science with a concentration in Africana Studies. He received his M.S in Educational Studies from Johns Hopkins University's Graduate School of Education.
