Meet Waverly: A Young Coder with Big Dreams
At just eight years old, Waverly May, a 3rd grader at our Mark Twain Coding Club, is already thinking big. With a love for space, storytelling, and adventure, she’s using coding to bring her creative ideas to life—one project at a time!
For Waverly, coding is all about creativity and problem-solving. “It is fun,” she says, “because if you make a mistake, you can always hit the back button or just redo it or delete it.” This growth mindset, embracing mistakes as part of learning, is what makes her such a natural coder.
Her love for technology runs in the family. “My dad used to make computers, so I really enjoy doing it,” she shares. Inspired by her father’s work, Waverly was excited to join Bold Idea’s Coding Club and dive into the world of programming.
One of Waverly’s favorite parts of Coding Club is the balance between independence and support. “I can figure things out on my own, but [my mentors] can also help me if I’m stuck or if I don’t know a trick.” Having mentors who encourage both curiosity and confidence makes coding even more exciting.
When it comes to coding projects, Waverly is interested in making things feel real, especially space movies. “I want to make space movies that seem real because I also want to be an astronaut,” she says.
She sees coding as an important skill for her future career. “It’ll help me understand how to control the spaceship and do space studying on the computers,” she explains. With her passion for both technology and exploration, Waverly is already thinking like a scientist!
For any student who has never tried coding before, Waverly has some simple advice:
"It’s fun and a really good skill to learn!"
At Bold Idea, we love seeing students like Waverly discover the power of coding and dream big. Whether it’s making interactive stories, games, or even space simulations, coding opens up a world of possibilities.
We can’t wait to see where Waverly’s love for coding and space exploration takes her next! 🚀✨
